    Current

Anne Carnein uses textile materials to create delicate floral objects that exude an intense presence, quiet poetry and a sensual quality, opening up a new level of perception.

Her works deliberately incorporate the root system – a part of the plant that usually remains hidden and is often larger than the visible above-ground section. Through this radical shift in focus, she makes the hidden visible and grants the plant an independent, almost autonomous existence. In this way, the plant can be experienced not merely as an object, but as a counterpart.

This reversal of perspective compels us to rethink the relationship between humans and nature and to recognise the complexity of natural systems. The precision of craftsmanship in the handling of the materials reflects not only technical skill but also a conscious engagement with materiality and transience. In a world where nature is increasingly supplanted by technical reproduction, Carnein’s fabric flowers become symbolic witnesses to a lost intimacy with the environment.

As a master student of Prof. Stephan Balkenhol, she demonstrates in her work how traditional craft materials can be reinterpreted in contemporary contexts.
